How to do a Pedicure at Home: Step-by-Step
Sometimes we neglect to take care of our feet. If you’re like me, the only time I really take care of them is when it’s sandal season. Which is a shame. Cause we are on our feet most of the day. And personally, nothing is quite as good as a nice foot massage. So give your feet a treat in the comfort of your own home. Kick your feet up, literally, and just relax.
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton balls
- Bowl with warm water and foot soak
- Nail clipper
- Nail file
- Manicure brush
- Cuticle oil or softener
- Cuticle pusher
- Pumice stone
- Foot Scrub
- Foot and leg cream
- Clean towel or paper towels
- Base and top coat (optional)
- Nail polish in your favourite colour (optional)
Clean your nails with nail polish remover and cotton balls to remove any old nail polish or oil build up.
Soak your feet for 5 - 10 minutes in a bowl with warm water and foot soak.
3. Shape and clean:
Clip your nails to your desired length and shape using your nail file. Remember to always file your nails from the outsides to the centre, not straight across. Do not cut your nails too short to avoid ingrown nails. Scrub your nails with a manicure brush to remove any dirt from under your nails.
Apply cuticle oil to your cuticles and gently push back each cuticle with a cuticle pusher. Use the other side of the cuticle pusher to clean under your nails for any more dirt.
5. Soak and Scrub:
Soak feet again for 3 - 5 minutes and scrub dead skin with a pumice stone. Using a foot scrub, scrub feet (and legs) to get rid of dead cells and stimulate circulation.
6. Rinse and dry:
Rinse feet (and legs) with clean water and dry with a clean towel or paper towels.
7. Massage and moisturise:
Apply a rich moisturising foot and leg cream to your feet and legs. Massage your feet with the cream until it is absorbed for a few minutes.
8. Clean and prep your nails (optional):
Clean your nails with nail polish remover and a cotton ball. Prep your nails with one layer of base coat.
9. Colour (optional):
Add 2 - 3 layers of nail polish in your favourite colour. Finish with a layer of top coat.
Put your feet up and take some time to admire your at-home pedicure. Remember that nail polish takes a few hours to dry completely, so don’t put on any closed shoes right away, opt for some flip-flops instead.
Now take some time and admire your pretty feet. Love every part of yourself - even your little toe.
Stay beautiful always,
